A partnership between the Brethren Retirement Community and Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Adult Education offers the opportunity to earn an education in Practical Nursing without leaving Darke County.
The 40 week nursing program is divided into four separate but integrated quarters. Under the guidance of Martha Brown, Instructor of the MVCTC Practical Nursing Program, the group meets Monday and Tuesdays for clinical experiences throughout healthcare facilities in the community and Wednesday through Friday at a state of the art classroom with space provided by the Brethren Retirement Community (BRC).
The Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN'S) provide bedside care under the direction of Registered Nurses. The program emphasizes hands on care and medication administration. I. V. therapy is a part of the 40 week program. After successful completion of the 4 quarters, graduates may sit for the National Licensing Exam for Practical Nurses and receive their license to practice nursing. Graduates may also transition into registered nursing programs.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. There are a number of potential sources including Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, Workforce Investment Act and Veterans Benefits. MVCTC Adult education employs a financial aid counselor and an agency liaison to assist students who wish to apply for financial aid.
