The 45-acre campus of Brethren Retirement Community was full last Saturday as many participants, athletes, spectators, residents, family and friends attended the First Annual Darke County Backyard Olympics.  This fun-filled, “fun-raising” family day was one that will be remembered for quite some time by all that attended.  The Brethren Retirement Community and The Darke County YMCA joined forces for this event with all proceeds benefiting the Resident Aid Fund and the Scholarship Fund at the YMCA.  The funds will be used to help both organizations provide essential services relative to their mission that enhance the Darke County Community.

The event brought the area’s biggest-hearted backyard athletes, individually and in teams of two to the surface.  They had the opportunity to participate in a variety of events including: a 5K run, fishing derby, homerun derby, senior olympics, or the opportunity to compete in the non-traditional backyard corporate challenge.  This event was the most exciting and fun for all that participated or watched.

Brethren Retirement Community and the YMCA of Darke County would like to thank all the participating organizations, sponsors and backyard athletes.  Without their generous support this event would not have been possible.  A special thank you to our presenting sponsor, Second National Bank, VIP sponsor, Integrity Ambulance Service, Backyard Multi-Sport Challenge Sponsor, The Daily Advocate, 5K Run Sponsor, Dr. Julia Bowlin, Fishing Derby Sponsor, Kiwanis Club of Greenville, Homerun Derby Sponsor, GTI, Corporate Challenge Sponsor, Dr. Maher, Trimble and Stevens, Family and Friends Sponsor, Rotary Club of Greenville, Kids Fun Zone Sponsor, BTO Yogurt, and the Senior Olympics Sponsor, Medicine and More.
