The 45-acre campus of Brethren Retirement Community was full last Saturday as many participants, athletes, spectators, residents, family and friends attended the First Annual Darke County Backyard Olympics. This fun-filled, “fun-raising” family day was one that will be remembered for quite some time by all that attended. The Brethren Retirement Community and The Darke County YMCA joined forces for this event with all proceeds benefiting the Resident Aid Fund and the Scholarship Fund at the YMCA. The funds will be used to help both organizations provide essential services relative to their mission that enhance the Darke County Community.
The event brought the area’s biggest-hearted backyard athletes, individually and in teams of two to the surface. They had the opportunity to participate in a variety of events including: a 5K run, fishing derby, homerun derby, senior olympics, or the opportunity to compete in the non-traditional backyard corporate challenge. This event was the most exciting and fun for all that participated or watched.
